 27 February 2008 – Joint Chapter Meeting
“Charity Begins With Me”

Dear friends,
It was a plethora of happiness to have all of you during Cairnhill Toastmasters Club and CPA Australia Toastmasters Club February Joint Chapter Meeting. Aside from the normal chapter meeting, Cairnhill Toastmasters Club also celebrated 12 years anniversary, born in the year or the rat, correct me if I’m wrong.

I would like to thank all Cairnhill Toastmasters Club & CPA Australia Toastmasters Club members, invited guests from other Toastmasters Club, and guests who made our days a plethora of happiness as well as food provided by our inhouse chef, Margaret.

There were 4 project speakers on the day: Stella, Wen Cheng, Michael Chang, and John Liew. Stella talked about “living forever”, Wen Cheng talked about his “shopping sphere during Chinese New Year“, Michael talked about his “3 Michael”, while John talked about “His Girlfriend and fixing Toilet” (those who missed the speech won’t know the relation).

During the break, aside from the food and fruits, we also had fabulous cake prepared for Cairnhill Toastmasters Club 12th Anniversary. I wished I had one more slice, thanks to Sharon only giving me one small slice (just joking).

The table topics session conducted by Sharon was definitely a difficult one, where the participants were tortured by difficult topics related to charity. (Sharon, I hope I’m not discouraging you) However, marvelous attempts by all speakers: Bryan, Therese, Cohen, and Derek. (apologize for any misspelling on any name)

In the next session, evaluations, there was a plethora of wisdom shown by all evaluators: Pak Fee, Violet, Rose, and Mike Woon. I hope all speakers and the audience have benefited from their experience in Toastmasters.

I reserved my thanks for those who used the word of the day during the meeting: Sharon, Margaret, Violet, John Liew, and Rose (apologize if I missed anyone). You showed us that a new and unfamiliar word is not a barrier to prevent you to learn English.

Sadly to say, as a great feast always has an end, our meeting has the end too. However, without a goodbye, we couldn’t meet again.

Our club’s next gathering will be on Saturday, 8 March 2008, for the 3rd Speechcraft Session. We need you all to support us and to make our meetings lively. You’re friends of Cairnhill Toastmasters Club, and friends of CPA Australia Toastmasters Club.

Don’t forget, Cairnhill Toastmasters Club Contest: Toastmasters International Speech & Table Topics Contests on Tuesday, 11 March 2008, 7 pm, in SMU. I’d provide you with the details in my next update. Cairnhill Toastmasters Club Members who want to participate in any of the contest, please contact me. The requirement to enter the International Speech Contest is: complete project 6 of the communcation manual.
