Dear Fellow Toastmasters,

Please put our hands together and applause to our Champions. Like they said a show paints a thousand words and tonight, a lot of us witnessed this event at the SMU seminar hall.

International Speech Contest: Violet Lim (Leap of faith)
Table Topics Contest : Ang Wen Cheng (Good humor save us from the hands of the doctors)

wow, this is nothing like it. It was a fierce competition amongst our club members i.e. violet, heru & wen cheng for the International speech and Wen Cheng, Jamie & Heru for the Table Topics.

Although, there were 3 clubs involved, SMU, TCS (Tata Consultant) & Cairnhill, sad to said not be biase but all our members performed beyond their potential. I can not believe my ears, the 3 performed exceptionally well, beyond anybody’s expectation.

Violet lead us into the Leap of Faith, about making choices in life and take action rather than having the safety, serenity and stability attitude. She went on to demostrated (The Titanic, Rose posture i.e. I jump you jump type),
standing on her toe and looking below from an imaginery height. This unknown posture excites me and yet frighten me (taken from her script). The rest was history and she won us the champion.

Equally good was Wen Cheng, who dribbled his way trying to convince us to watch football as a way to de-stress ourselves.

And most touching of all, our Heru, talking about his late grandma and bringing her to “live” in front of the door. it brought tears to our eyes and he kept reminding us to treasure all those around us while they and us are still alive. His advise, do not take everyone for granted.

These 3 were the champions amongst the champions. They did exceptionally well and a Cheers to them.

Table topic, a very tricky question “Good humor save us from the hands of the doctors”.

nevertheless, Wen Cheng made it as the champion, after 4 speakers, finally the magic word was spoken, I have been waiting for, “Laughter is the best medicine”.

followed by Jamie, very diplomatic approached as usual, just like his board game, very interesting after my
absence for so long to see Jamie and Violet performed again.

It takes a brave one to side track us from the title and Heru did it so well and had the whole title cosmetic, I really take my hats off to you, Heru.

Last and not least Well Done Guys, You made Cairnhill proud……. ..

let us show our support for them in the Area D2 Contest at SRC on the 9th April from 7pm, onwards.
